The Alison Dunlap Adventure Camps was a project my husband and I started in 2003. Under the ADAC name we run two programs; instructional camps and clinics April through October and a full-time coaching business. 2007 was an exciting year for ADAC. We ran over twenty-two skills clinics and had a hugely successful five day camp in Moab, UT. In 2008 we will start our sixth year of running camps in Moab offering dates in early May and October. We are also expanding the number of skills clinics and private clinics offered. And I will again be running race clinics at the National Mountain Bike series events with the Luna Women’s MTB Team.
Moab MTB Camp:
Come to Moab and join us for an exciting five day mountain bike adventure! Are you ready for some warm sunshine, incredible riding, and scenery like you’ve never seen before? If you’re the kind of rider that enjoys learning the skills and techniques that will enable you to push your riding to the next level then this adventure is for you. In our Moab 5-day camp you’ll be treated to amazing rides, gourmet food, luxurious condos, relaxing massages, educational seminars, and coaching. We’ll cook for you, teach you everything you need to know about mountain biking, clean your bike, pamper you, and give you memories you’ll want to share with everyone.
The number one goal of the Alison Dunlap Adventure Camps is to share with you our passion and love for the sport. Our mountain bike camps are all about you. We’re there to teach you the skills you’ll need to confidently ride the more technical trails around Moab and back home. We run all our camps in a safe supportive environment while stretching your “comfort zone” both mentally and physically. With our combined experience of racing, riding, and coaching we feel that we can give you an adventure you’ll never forget!
About Alison Dunlap
From a kid with a training wheel-equipped, royal blue, banana seat bicycle, to the 2001 World Mountain Bike Championship, Alison Dunlap has never ignored her dad’s advice when he told her "don’t stop pedaling!" It was advice that has taken her beyond an early initial interest in soccer and gymnastics to become one of the elite among female cyclists.
Alison Dunlap has always maintained an intense interest in sports. Her early involvement with soccer in her freshmen year at Colorado College left her looking into other options when she became the last team player cut from the Division 1 powerhouse. A life-long interest in cycling resulted in her becoming the only female member of the school cycling club. It was a perfect fit and the die was forever cast when she became the woman’s national road racing collegiate champion her senior year. She was hooked.
Five years later found her at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games in the women’s road race where she finished 37th. While contemplating retirement she began to realize that despite being burned out on road racing she still loved the sport. It was when she began dating professional mountain biker Greg Frozley (now her husband) that she realized her untapped potential as a mountain biker. Their personal relationship, combined with his involvement in the mountain bike scene, further nurtured her interest. A new love was born. Soon followed a sponsorship with GT Bicycles, helping launch her ascent into the world of the mountain bike elite.
In 1997, in only her 4th World Cup, she stunned everyone by winning the race in Budapest, Hungary. Then in 1999, Alison won her second World Cup, a gold medal at the Pan-Am Games and became the U.S. National Champion. She was the number one ranked US rider and finished the season ranked second in the world. Since then she has won twelve more national titles, a World Cup Overall, a World Championship, and raced in her second Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
After the 2005 season Alison retired from racing. She has continued to stay involved with the sport through the creation of the Alison Dunlap Adventure Camps. Alison continues to be an active member of the Luna Women’s Mountain Bike Team, leading race clinics at the Norba National events and with the Luna Chix Ambassador program. If that isn’t enough, Alison also fills her “free time” being a USA Cycling certified Level III coach, a United States Anti-doping Association Athlete Ambassador, a member of the UCI Mountain Bike Commission, and a certified Wilderness First Responder. She is also a proud graduate of the Colorado College with a BA in Biology. She currently lives in Colorado Springs with her husband Greg and Border Collie Jiggs.
